Redding is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Connecticut Magazine voted Redding, CT as its second best small town in 2012.

  • In 1639, Roger Ludlow purchased land from local Native Americans to establish Fairfield, and in 1668 Fairfield purchased another tract of land then called Northfield, which comprised land that is now part of Redding.
  • The original town name was Reading, named after John Read – a lawyer and landowner and later the town named was officially changed to Redding in 1767 to help people with pronunciation.
  • A population of 9,125
    Mark Twain was once a resident.
  • Several films were filmed in the Georgetown District of Redding, including Reckless, Other People’s Money, Rachel, Rachel, The Stepford Wives.
